What We Do

The Boone County Bluebird Society was organized in 1988 by local bird enthusiasts who were concerned by the endangerment of bluebirds through the loss of natural nesting sites.

Volunteers build nesting boxes mostly from wood donated by concerned citizens. Property owners who receive the bluebird houses are asked to monitor the birds’ progress.

The Society has done much to aid the bluebird population. In turn, members have learned a great deal about these delightful birds and help build awareness among Boone County citizens of the bluebirds' needs.

On bright summer days, a drive along a country road can reward the viewer with a glimpse of a male bluebird watching over a nearby nesting box.
